Swedish automaker Volvo has produced its last diesel-powered vehicle this week, ending an era of diesel engine manufacturing as it aims to focus solely on electric cars by 2030.
The XC90 SUV rolled off the production line at Volvo’s Torslanda plant in Sweden on Tuesday evening, marking the final diesel-powered car produced by the company.
Volvo is gradually phasing out this technology, despite the current global demand for electric vehicles being relatively modest, though it will continue producing gasoline-powered cars.
Erik Seifertson, Volvo Cars’ Executive Vice President for New Cars and Operations Strategy, told Bloomberg: “We are fully confident that we have very strong offerings for our customers even without diesel.”
