Tesla Recalls 4,000 Vehicles Over “Soap” Issue — What’s Going On?

Tesla has issued a voluntary recall of nearly 4,000 Cybertruck trucks after the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) identified a problem with the vehicle’s accelerator pedal.

The NHTSA stated, “When high force is applied to the pad on the accelerator pedal, the pad may shift, potentially causing the pedal to become trapped under the interior trim above it.”

If this occurs, “performance may degrade,” affecting pedal operation and potentially increasing the risk of a collision.

Regulators explained that the pads may be loose because soap, used as a lubricant during vehicle assembly, prevents them from adhering properly to the pedal.

The NHTSA noted that Tesla will either replace or re-engineer the accelerator pedal assembly to prevent the pad from shifting, free of charge for customers.

The recall affects 3,878 Cybertrucks, including all vehicles manufactured between November 13 and April 4.
