Electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and points have recently spread across the UAE, located at fuel stations, shopping centers, and tourist attractions to serve electric vehicles.
By the end of the first quarter of this year, the UAE had reached 1,000 charging stations and points, with projections indicating that this number could exceed 10,000 stations and points by 2030.
The UAE has also begun attracting electric vehicle manufacturing projects, most notably the Rabdan One and Al-Damani vehicle projects, which are among the earliest efforts to produce Emirati-made electric cars.
Recently, several agreements and partnerships were signed between government and private entities, manufacturers, and investors to focus on creating investment incentives for the national EV charging network.
ADNOC Distribution has announced a strategic plan to expand fast and ultra-fast charging points for electric vehicles. In the first quarter of 2024 alone, ADNOC increased its charging points to 89, representing a 68% growth compared to Q4 2023. This expansion included the establishment of a dedicated transport hub in Masdar City, with plans to increase the total number of charging points to 150–200 by the end of 2024.
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) supervises the Green Charger project, providing 390 charging points in Dubai, with a charging fee of 0.44 AED per kWh.
Meanwhile, the Union Water and Electricity Company operates a network of 36 charging stations in the northern Emirates, currently offering free service until tariffs are set, while also working on expanding EV charging infrastructure across the northern Emirates.
