Dubai Tram Carries 71.8 Million Passengers Over 11 Years

Since its launch in 2014, the Dubai Tram has transported over 71.8 million passengers, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

The authority announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the tram has covered more than 6.61 million kilometers, connecting key destinations such as Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah.

“Today, we celebrate eleven years of a journey that transformed vision into reality, advancing Dubai’s path toward a more innovative and sustainable future,” the RTA stated.

Dubai Tram is the first tram project outside Europe to operate entirely on ground-level power supply, eliminating the need for overhead electric wires. It is also the first system worldwide to use automated platform gates synchronized with the tram doors, ensuring passenger comfort, safety, and climate-controlled environments within stations and carriages.

The tram fleet consists of 11 vehicles, each with seven compartments across three classes: Gold, Silver, and women-and-children compartments, offering a travel experience tailored to all passenger groups.

Operations are monitored through an integrated control center, operating 24/7, which oversees tram movement, driver performance, and the efficiency of supporting systems such as energy and traffic signaling at intersections.
